Dudung: Traits of a successful leader can inspire others
Cilacap Regency, Central Java (ANTARA) - Presidential Chief of Staff Dudung Abdurachman said that the traits of a successful leader must include innovation and imagination, so that what they produce can serve as an inspiration for others.
“The traits of a leader who wants to succeed are, first, that he continually has imagination, he must have innovation, he must have vision and mission, he must have aspirations and hope,” said Dudung on Nusakambangan Island, Cilacap Regency, Central Java, on Tuesday.
Dudung continued that a successful leader must also dare to make decisions, even when they carry risk.
“Without all of these, one merely leads in a mediocre way. And a trait of a successful leader is that he must dare to make decisions, whatever the decision, even if it is risky, he must be brave. Even if it is risky or wrong, it is still better than not daring at all, because success and victory come from courage,” he said.
He cited the transformation at the Nusakambangan Correctional Institution (Lapas) as an example that can inspire others, showing that a prison is not merely a place where someone serves a sentence, but also a space for building people.
“The coaching programme is able to produce productive citizens while contributing to the food security drive that has been championed by Mr President,” said Dudung.
During his visit, Dudung inspected several community development programmes on Nusakambangan Island that can support food security, including the Job Training Centre (BLK) for eel farming, the Goat Farming BLK, the Grape Plantation and Orchid Plantation, the Vannamei Shrimp Pond Farming BLK in Bantar Panjang, and the BLK for Laying Hen and Duck Farming.
He expressed hope that the steps taken by the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas) could serve as an example and spur other ministries and institutions to support President Prabowo Subianto’s food security programme.
“On behalf of the Presidential Staff Office, I appreciate what has been done by Mr Agus (Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services Agus Andrianto, ed.) and I hope to report this to Mr President as a model. A model is not merely about the productivity achieved. This is nothing much compared to the existing natural wealth, but what makes it exemplary is the integrity, the determination,” said Dudung.
