Dudung Reveals Final Health Condition of Former Defence Minister Ryamizard
Chief of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Dudung Abdurachman revealed the final health condition of former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, who served from 2014 to 2019. Dudung stated that Ryamizard was receiving treatment at the Army Central Hospital due to complications from a stroke and other ailments before passing away on Sunday (31 May) afternoon. ‘His illness was complicated—stroke and other issues. We pray for him; he was a good person. I believe, God willing, he will be accepted by Allah SWT,’ he told reporters at the funeral home. During the same occasion, Dudung recalled Ryamizard’s tenure as Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD). ‘He was the one who enforced the TNI’s return to the barracks. He was a true soldier—a genuine professional and warrior,’ he said. At that time, he recalled receiving guidance while serving as a battalion commander during the military emergency operation in Aceh. Dudung said Ryamizard advised against a military approach in Aceh. ‘His approach was humanitarian—avoiding killing and the like. That’s what I held onto,’ he explained. ‘Famously in the Army, he didn’t talk about lofty territorial development; his key phrase was ’be good to the people’. That’s what he often said,’ he added. Ryamizard passed away at age 76 on Sunday (31 May) afternoon. He died at 14:03 WIB while receiving treatment at Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital.
