Presidential Chief of Staff General TNI (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman stated that the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), together with the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri), successfully uncovered 59 narcotics syndicate networks over the past year as part of efforts to eradicate drugs in Indonesia. In a statement cited in Jakarta on Saturday, Dudung mentioned that seven of the uncovered networks were international-scale narcotics trafficking rings. Furthermore, law enforcement officers also managed to foil the smuggling of more than 200 tonnes of narcotics with an estimated economic value reaching Rp29 trillion. According to Dudung, this achievement reflects the government’s commitment to eradicating narcotics trafficking in order to protect the public, particularly the younger generation, from the threat of drug abuse. “This commemoration is also a momentum for us to reaffirm our collective steps against the trafficking and use of drugs as a real enemy threatening Indonesia’s future,” he said during the International Anti-Narcotics Day commemoration. Dudung emphasised that the International Anti-Narcotics Day, observed every 26 June, must not merely be an annual ceremonial event, but rather a momentum to strengthen collaboration among all elements of the nation in combating drugs. He reminded that the threat of narcotics abuse remains very serious. Based on BNN data, the prevalence of drug abuse in 2026 is still above two per cent, encompassing more than four million people in Indonesia. According to him, this figure is not just a statistic because behind every case of drug abuse there is a social impact felt by families and the surrounding environment. “Drugs do not recognise age limits, do not recognise social status, and do not recognise territorial boundaries. We as a nation have a collective determination to eradicate narcotics,” said Dudung. He invited all elements of society to play an active role in preventing drug abuse, starting from the family environment, in order to protect the nation’s future generations from the threat of narcotics. Dudung added that the drug eradication effort is part of the government’s commitment, which is in line with the implementation of Asta Cita, particularly in realising superior and high-quality human resources.
