Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) Dudung Abdurachman stated that the current moment is the right time to evaluate vulnerable level crossings, following a series of train accidents that have occurred in the past few days.

In a statement in Jakarta on Friday, Dudung expressed condolences for the accident between a train and a vehicle in Grobogan Regency, Central Java, which killed four people in the early hours, after a previous train accident in East Bekasi with 16 fatalities on Monday (27/4).

“This series of accidents serves as an alarm reminder to improve public transportation, especially trains. Fleets, infrastructure, and services to the public must be accompanied by supporting infrastructure such as safe crossings,” Dudung said.

Dudung highlighted the high risks at level crossings, particularly in dense areas and busy traffic routes in Jakarta and other major cities.

According to him, one solution that can be accelerated is the construction of flyovers at vulnerable points, with support from the budget already prepared by the government.

“PT KAI also needs to ensure that standard operating procedures at level crossings are implemented properly, including the presence and readiness of crossing guards,” he said.

Dudung added that the government will work harder to resolve safety issues at train crossings.

“Public safety is the top priority in managing public transportation,” he said.
