Dudung Abdurachman, Retired TNI General Trusted to Lead the KSP

Retired TNI General Dudung Abdurachman has been inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto as the Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), succeeding Muhammad Qodari. The man, born in Bandung, West Java, on 19 November 1965, previously served as Special Advisor to the President for National Defence and Chairman of the Defence Industry Policy Committee (KKIP). Dudung completed his primary and secondary education in Bandung, graduating from State Senior High School 9 Bandung in 1985. His determination and desire to serve the nation led him to enter the Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang. He successfully completed his military education and graduated in 1988 from the Infantry branch. Not only focused on military education, Dudung earned a Bachelor’s (S-1) and Master’s (S-2) degree in economics and management, and obtained a Doctorate (S-3) in Economic Science from Trisakti University in 2022. The pinnacle came in 2023 when he was inaugurated as a Professor at the Military Law Higher Education Institute (STHM). Beginning his military service as a young officer, Dudung was immediately tested in challenging operational fields. He was assigned to the 744/Satya Yudha Bakti Special Raider Infantry Battalion in Atambua, East Nusa Tenggara, as a platoon commander from 1989 to 1994. Interestingly, this main combat battalion deployed in operations in East Timor was also once an assignment post for Indonesia’s 6th President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), in the 1980s. From Atambua, Dudung’s career continued to climb steadily. After serving as company commander in 1995, he was entrusted with several strategic positions, from Deputy Commander of the 401/Alugoro and Banteng Raider Infantry Battalion to Chief of Staff of the Semarang 0733/BS District Military Command. Entering the rank of lieutenant colonel, his regional leadership was further tested when he served as Commander of the 143/Tri Wira Eka Jaya Infantry Battalion (2002-2004), followed by becoming District Military Commander in Musi Rawas and Palembang. Entering 2010 with the rank of colonel, his contributions shifted to the central stage. He filled important personnel roles at the Army Headquarters (Mabes TNI AD) and TNI Headquarters, until becoming Commander of the TNI Headquarters Detachment in 2015. In the same year, Dudung officially held the rank of brigadier general when appointed as Deputy Governor of Akmil. Dudung’s high-level leadership phase shone even brighter. He was promoted to major general while serving as Governor of Akmil (2018-2020), which then led him to lead the capital’s territorial command as Pangdam Jaya (2020-2021). Less than a year securing Jakarta, the command of the 42nd Kostrad Commander was entrusted to him. Not long after in the same year, Dudung’s rapid career culminated in his appointment by Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo to lead the army branch as KSAD, a peak position he held until retirement on 19 November 2023. The transition from active military to government occurred in the era of President Prabowo Subianto. On 22 October 2024, Dudung was officially inaugurated as Special Advisor to the President for National Defence and Chairman of the Defence Industry Policy Committee (KKIP). With an intellectual background and experience leading hundreds of thousands of soldiers, Dudung holds a crucial role at the forefront of the Palace’s advisory table. He is responsible for providing direct strategic input to the Head of State to address increasingly complex global defence dynamics. Now, he is trusted to lead the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), which is responsible for supporting the President and Vice President in implementing national priority programmes, managing strategic issues, political communication, and resolving policy implementation obstacles.
