Dubai Airport and Luxury Hotel Damaged in Iranian Attack
Two architectural landmarks in Dubai have reported suffering minor damage from Iran’s retaliatory strikes, which expanded across several Gulf nations and Middle Eastern regions.
The attacks targeted not only military installations and American interests, but also impacted civilian facilities.
The two significant buildings in the United Arab Emirates affected are as follows:
Dubai International Airport
The busiest airport in the Middle East sustained minor damage following the overnight incident. Dubai Media Office, via X platform, stated that “a lounge at Dubai International Airport (DXB) sustained minor damage in an incident, which was quickly addressed,” without detailing the cause or timeline of events.
Sources from UAE aviation authorities, as cited by Reuters, noted that the Iranian attack caused damage to one of the airport’s terminals.
As a primary hub for regional tourism and commerce, Dubai International Airport stands as one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs, particularly for east-west routes. Disruption to this facility had significant impact on regional flight operations. Several airlines on Saturday temporarily suspended routes to and from Dubai and several other cities, including Abu Dhabi.
Burj Al Arab
Beyond the airport, the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab also sustained damage. Local authorities confirmed that an intercepted drone triggered a small fire when debris fell on the exterior of the building.
Burj Al Arab is widely recognised as a symbol of Dubai’s luxury. The hotel opened in 1999 on an artificial island off Jumeirah Beach, distinguished by its unique architecture resembling a sailing ship.
On the same day, fires were also reported near another hotel in the Palm Jumeirah area, a reclaimed island known as an exclusive residential and resort zone in Dubai.
