DTKJ Proposes Six Additional Groups for Free Public Transport in Jakarta

The Jakarta Transport Council (DTKJ) has proposed adding six new categories of residents entitled to the free public transport card (KLG) in Jakarta, following plans to increase Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek fares. DTKJ Chairman Sugihardjo stated that the Jakarta Provincial Government currently provides free transport cards to 15 groups, with one additional group to be added in 2026, plus the six newly proposed categories. He said this measure is intended to assist communities deemed in need due to the planned Transjakarta tariff adjustment. The six proposed groups are: 1. Companions of people with severe disabilities, including those assisting the blind, wheelchair users, and individuals with severe cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, or autism. 2. Routine referral patients, such as those undergoing dialysis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, thalassemia treatment, medical rehabilitation, routine heart check-ups, and therapy for children with special needs, to alleviate their transport costs for frequent hospital visits. 3. Underprivileged students not covered by the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) or Jakarta Superior Student Card (KJMU), including private high school and vocational students, public and private university students, Islamic boarding school students, and non-formal education participants. 4. Active job seekers holding job seeker cards (AK1), attending job fairs or training, and victims of layoffs seeking employment, to support their participation in training, job markets, and interviews. 5. Disaster and fire victims during their recovery period, including those affected by residential fires, floods, tornadoes, and landslides, to help them manage documents, seek medical treatment, or work. 6. Micro-entrepreneurs under the guidance of the Jakarta Provincial Government, such as Jakpreneur participants, sub-district assisted MSMEs, and traders receiving entrepreneurship training, to facilitate their economic activities and access to business locations. DTKJ hopes the proposal will be considered by the Jakarta Provincial Government in revising Governor Regulation Number 33 of 2025.
