DTKJ Proposes Ending Free Mikrotrans, Suggests Rp 2,000 Fare

Chairman of the Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ), Sugihardjo, has proposed introducing a fare for the Mikrotrans service, suggesting passengers pay Rp 2,000 instead of riding for free. “For short distances using Mikrotrans, the fare would be Rp 2,000. We are proposing Rp 2,000. So, from not paying, you would now pay,” Sugihardjo told reporters at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (3/7/2026). He stated the fare was proposed to prevent data manipulation. Because they fail to meet targets, operators manipulate the tapping themselves to inflate passenger numbers. “This is for better data collection. Why? All this time, in the contract between Transjakarta and the operators, there are targets for kilometres travelled and targets for passenger numbers,” he explained. “Regarding this, when it is free, if the passenger numbers are low, I, as the operator, would think, ‘Oh no, I don’t want the target to be missed and get a penalty. I’ll just do the tapping myself so the target is met,’” he revealed. He said that by imposing a Rp 2,000 fare, operators would be unable to manipulate the data. Passenger data would be more accurate. “Now, with Rp 2,000, would I want to do the tapping myself? My money would run out, right? So the data becomes more real. So later, for our media friends, if Mikrotrans is charged a Rp 2,000 fare and the passenger data drops, that data is genuinely a drop,” he elaborated.
