Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirmed there are no plans to transfer the export oversight functions of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) to PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI). He also stressed that establishing DSI as an export entity would not alter DJBC’s role.

‘Yes, it remains as usual. What difference is there? Reporting and other matters will be handled by DSI, but Customs will still inspect imports and exports,’ Purbaya said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.

‘So it does not mean Customs’ functions are lost,’ he added.

Purbaya stated the government is working to strengthen Customs’ role, as President Prabowo has signaled an evaluation of its performance. Therefore, DJBC improvements will continue, including replacing leadership if deemed incapable of fulfilling duties properly.

‘Customs’ role remains the same, but it will be improved. If they’re not up to the job, leadership must be replaced,’ Purbaya said.

Previously, National Economic Council (DEN) Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, via spokesperson Jodi Mahardi, confirmed that previous proposals on natural resource export management did not shift DJBC’s functions.

‘We emphasise that Mr Luhut did not propose any takeover, merger, or change in the functions of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC),’ he said.
