Dry season hikes vegetable prices
Prices of vegetables at the Kramat Jati wholesale market in East Jakarta have risen by seven to 22 percent in the past few weeks following a decline in vegetable yields in production areas as a result of the dry season.
Herman, the head of the data and transportation unit at the market, revealed yesterday that the price of all types of vegetables have risen compared to the previous month.
The Kramat Jati wholesale fruit and vegetable market is the largest supplier of vegetables and fruits for the traditional markets all over the city.
According to Herman the increase is typical to previous years where vegetable supplies from West Java and other surrounding areas drop due to the dry season. He added that the prices of a number fruits are also increasing. (mds)
