Drunken group stabs sergeant

JAKARTA (JP): A sergeant stationed at the Depok police
precinct was badly stabbed on Monday by a member of a drunken
group after he failed to settle a dispute between the group and a
passer-by.

"Three of the five members of the group have been apprehended,
while the other two are still at large," Depok Police Head Lt.
Col. Sisno Adiwinoto on Monday.

Sisno said that 2nd Sergeant Suryotopan, who was wearing
civilian clothes at the time of the incident, was stabbed in the
early hours on Monday while on his way home from a party at his
friend's house on Jl. Benuang Raya, Depok.

"He was stabbed in the neck and back," he said, adding that
the officer was currently being treated at the Soekanto Police
Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.

The three arrested members, all in their 30s, now in Depok
police custody have been identified as Susanto, Agus Alamsyah and
Aminuddin.

The group stopped a pedestrian, named Yongky, and asked him to
buy a bottle of beer for them, police said.

Yongky refused and they attacked him just as sergeant
Suryotopan was passing down the street and saw the incident.
