Drunk Female Driver Who Killed One in Surabaya Named Suspect
A woman with the initials ENR (32), the driver of a Mitsubishi Outlander involved in a series of collisions in Surabaya that left one person dead, has been named a suspect.
This was confirmed by the Head of Traffic Unit at Surabaya Metropolitan Police, AKBP Galih Bayu Raditya. He stated that the woman has now been designated as a suspect.
“She is already a suspect,” said Galih on Monday (24/8).
Galih said that based on the results of a urine test, the suspect was not under the influence of drugs. However, she was found to have consumed alcohol at the time of the incident.
“Negative (for drugs),” he said.
As a result of her actions, ENR is charged under Article 310 paragraph (4) and paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 106 paragraph (1) and Article 312 in conjunction with Article 231 of the 2009 Traffic and Road Transportation Law.
Previously, a series of collisions occurred in the area of Jalan Gubernur Suryo and Jalan Taman Apsari, Surabaya, not far from the Grahadi State Building, in the early hours of Sunday (23/8). The incident was triggered by a driver who was intoxicated, resulting in one fatality.
The Head of Traffic Unit at Surabaya Metropolitan Police, AKBP Galih Bayu Raditya, said the accident occurred at around 03.30 WIB. It began when a Mitsubishi Outlander with registration number L 1049 OO, driven by ENR (32), was travelling from Jalan Taman Apsari.
Galih said ENR is suspected of driving while intoxicated due to the influence of alcohol. She lost concentration and collided with an electric taxi with registration number L 1611 UG, driven by FDK (22), which was parked at the time.
“The Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Ms ENR was travelling from south to north. When turning left, the driver lost concentration due to the influence of alcohol and hit a Vinfast electric taxi that was parked on the right side of the road,” said Galih on Sunday.
After hitting the first vehicle, ENR did not stop and continued driving away from the scene towards Jalan Gubernur Suryo, right next to Surabaya’s Alun-Alun.
At the second location, the car driven by ENR struck RPK (25), who was loading goods into a parked L300 pick-up truck with registration number L 9760 CJ.
“The driver continued to flee the scene towards Jalan Gubernur Suryo. Next to Surabaya’s Alun-Alun, the vehicle hit Mr RPK, who was loading goods into his parked Mitsubishi L300 pick-up truck,” he said.
As a result of the impact, RPK suffered severe injuries and was immediately rushed to the Emergency Unit of Dr Soetomo General Hospital in Surabaya. The victim’s life could not be saved and he was pronounced dead while undergoing medical treatment.
“RPK suffered severe injuries and was immediately taken to the Emergency Unit of Dr Soetomo General Hospital in Surabaya. However, the victim was pronounced dead while receiving medical treatment,” he said.
Galih stated that preliminary results from the crime scene investigation indicate the accident was purely caused by human negligence. In addition, ENR was found not to possess a driving licence (SIM) or a vehicle registration certificate (STNK).
“The initial crime scene investigation results show the main cause of the accident was human negligence, namely the driver operating the vehicle without concentration under the influence of alcoholic beverages,” said Galih.
Galih said the case is currently still being handled by the Traffic Unit of Surabaya Metropolitan Police for further investigation.
