Drunk Driver in Outlander Kills Citizen, Faces Prison Sentence
A driver of an Outlander in Surabaya, ENR (32), must face the police after hitting a citizen, RPK (25), resulting in death while driving under the influence of alcohol. ENR is now facing the threat of imprisonment for her actions.
As reported on Sunday (30/8/2026), ENR has been named a suspect and has been officially detained by the police.
“The suspect has been detained,” said Iptu Sulthon N A, Head of Traffic Law Enforcement at Surabaya City Police, when confirmed on Thursday (2/27).
Here are the facts regarding the fatal accident that has shocked the community:
ENR Drank After Attending a Party
The fatal accident occurred on Sunday (23/8) at approximately 03:30 WIB. Before the accident, ENR was known to have just returned from a party.
Upon police interrogation, ENR admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages, though she claimed not to remember the exact amount consumed.
“A party. From a party venue,” ENR said when asked where she had been prior to the accident.
When questioned about the amount of alcohol consumed, ENR replied: “No, 7 glasses, 1/4 glass.”
Police testing subsequently showed that ENR tested positive for alcohol, with a blood alcohol content reaching 1.06 per cent.
“The alcohol level in her body was 1.06%. The incident occurred after the suspect returned from an entertainment venue nearby,” said Sulthon on Monday (24/8).
Collision with a Taxi
Before hitting RPK, ENR had also struck a parked taxi. ENR hit the vehicle while driving a Mitsubishi Outlander with registration L-1049-OO from south to north on Jalan Taman Apsari.
Surabaya City Police Traffic Chief AKBP Galih Bayu Raditya stated that ENR hit the taxi due to a loss of concentration caused by alcohol consumption.
“While turning left, ENR lost concentration. Her car then struck a parked VinFast electric taxi with registration L-1611-UG on the right side of the road,” said Galih on Monday (24/8).
Rather than stopping after hitting the taxi, ENR continued her journey. She admitted to panicking out of fear of being attacked by a mob.
“I was afraid that after clipping the taxi, a mob would chase me. I was afraid of being attacked by a crowd, so I tried to flee, but it ended in an accident that killed someone,” ENR said.
Police also noted that ENR had behaved aggressively towards people arriving at the accident scene.
“She was shouting at people who arrived at the scene; that is the nature of a drunk person,” said Galih. He added, “She did not resist the officers.”
ENR Hits RPK, Leading to Death
After leaving the first collision site, ENR drove towards Jalan Gubernur Suryo. Near the Surabaya Alun-Alun, the Outlander was involved in another accident.
The vehicle struck RPK, who was in the process of loading goods into his parked Mitsubishi L300.
The victim’s sister, Putri Nabila, stated that RPK was busy unloading event equipment. Because he was focused on work, he did not realise a vehicle was approaching rapidly from behind.
“My brother, RPK, was loading event equipment. Everyone was focused on the task, so no one noticed a car speeding up from behind,” Putri said when contacted on Wednesday (26/8).
RPK was reportedly looking into the box truck when ENR’s vehicle arrived, leaving him no time to avoid the impact. “He was looking inside the box truck, so he couldn’t dodge. The vehicle was moving fast, so he could only turn his head,” Putri added.
As a result of the accident, RPK sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Emergency Department of RSUD Dr Soetomo Surabaya.
“He suffered a wound at the base of his nose near his left eye caused by a piece of scaffolding steel, about the size of a thumb,” explained Putri.
According to the medical diagnosis, the victim suffered brain trauma, spinal cord injury, and a severe impact to the back of his head. Medical teams attempted resuscitation, but RPK could not be saved.
“In the ER, doctors attempted to use a pacemaker and provided oxygen assistance, but it was in vain. He was pronounced dead at 04:15 WIB,” said Putri.
ENR Faces 6 Years in Prison
Police have officially named ENR as a suspect. In addition to driving under the influence, police discovered that ENR did not possess a driving licence (SIM) or vehicle registration (STNK) at the time of the incident.
ENR is charged under Article 310 paragraph (4) in conjunction with Article 106 paragraph (1) of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transport, as the accident resulted in death. She is also charged under Article 312 in conjunction with Article 231 paragraph (1) for leaving the scene of the accident. The maximum penalty cited by police is 6 years in prison.
“The threat is 6 years in prison,” concluded Galih.
ENR remains in detention at the Surabaya City Police headquarters as the legal process continues.
“The legal process will proceed,” emphasised Sulthon.
