A member of the Kupang City Police Traffic Unit, Aipda Adrianus Ndu Ufi (39), was struck by a stone, causing a split lip and bleeding. The perpetrator, a man identified as SS (27), was drunk on alcohol.

‘The suspect is a public minibus driver (angkot). The incident was triggered by alcohol consumption,’ said Kupang City Police Chief Kombes Djoko Lestri to detikBali on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.

Djoko stated the incident occurred at Bayangan Oebufu Terminal in Oebobo District, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Monday, 25 May. It began when Adrianus and other officers were managing traffic around 9 PM WITA.

Shortly after, they observed SS arguing with several people at the scene. Adrianus and fellow officers intervened to prevent the dispute from escalating into a physical fight.

At that moment, the aggressive SS grabbed a fist-sized rock and threw it, hitting Adrianus’s lip.

‘As a result of the sudden attack, the victim suffered a severe tear on his right lip, requiring eight stitches,’ Djoko said.

Following the incident, Adrianus filed a police report at Kupang City Police Station. Investigators promptly interviewed witnesses and conducted an inquiry.

Police then tracked SS to his residence on Air Lobang 3 Street, Sikumana Village, Kupang City. He was arrested without resistance while walking home Monday night.

‘Preliminary investigations revealed the suspect’s reckless act was driven by alcohol, causing him to lose self-control and attack the officer,’ Djoko explained.

In addition to arresting SS, police secured the rock used in the attack. Djoko confirmed a case review would be held immediately to determine formal suspect status.

‘We regret this action, as the victim was attempting to peacefully intervene in a public altercation. We assure a rigorous, professional, and transparent legal process in line with applicable regulations,’ Djoko concluded.
