Drug trafficker shot dead

JAKARTA (JP): A drug trafficker was shot dead for resisting an arrest, while another suspect was rushed to Kramat Jati Police Hospital for swallowing a packet of low-grade heroin in two separate raids on Thursday evening.

Pulogadung Subprecinct Police identified the dead suspect as 27-year-old Nasir, alias Iqbal, who was caught red-handed in possession of 7 grams of low-grade heroin, 55 reefers, and Rp 2.7 million in cash allegedly from drug trafficking. Nasir was caught in an abandoned temporary cabin at a construction project on Jl. Pemuda, Rawamangun, East Jakarta.

The police's chief of intelligence detectives First. Insp. Bambang said on Friday that his personnel had been tracking down Nasir for a month prior to receiving reports from the local community.

"As police arrived at the cabin, the suspect pulled out a machete and tried to attack one of the officers," Bambang said.

Nasir died on the scene of the incident from gunshot wounds to his chest and head.

Bambang said the police were looking for Nasir's accomplice identified only as F.

Another alleged drug trafficker identified as 28-year-old Ali swallowed a pack of low-grade heroin in a bid to omit evidence when East Jakarta Police raided his home on Jl. Dermaga in Duren Sawit. (01)
