Drug trafficker disciplined

DENPASAR, Bali: A convicted drug trafficker serving a 1.5 year jail term lost his chance to obtain a reduced sentence when a cellular phone was found in his prison cell.

The convict, Eddy Kusyanto, had his phone seized during a routine search earlier this week, chief of the Bali provincial justice office Suhadi said yesterday.

Officials have speculated that the cellular phone was smuggled in by Eddy's wife, Febe Theresia Suryaningsih, who visits him regularly.

Suhadi said that one of the seven prison guards questioned about the smuggling of phone into the prison may be reprimanded, Antara reported.

Suhadi said that the police have questioned both Eddy and his wife, whose visits to Eddy have been closely monitored.

Eddy, who hails from the East Java town of Malang, was convicted of possessing and trafficking hashish, cocaine and Ecstasy pills last year. (pan)
