South Tangerang Police (Polres Tangsel) have uncovered a cross-provincial narcotics trafficking operation involving 40 kilogrammes of cannabis. The suspect, identified by the initials S (33), concealed the cannabis inside a vehicle and transported it overland.

South Tangerang Police collaborated with Tangerang City Metropolitan Police, Serpong Sector Police, and the Highway Patrol Unit of the National Traffic Corps in apprehending S. The cannabis was being transported from Medan, North Sumatra, to Jakarta.

“The modus operandi in this case was to send cannabis-type narcotics from Medan to the Jakarta, South Tangerang, and surrounding areas via overland routes using a four-wheeled vehicle,” said South Tangerang Police Chief AKBP Boy Jumalolo at a press conference at South Tangerang Police headquarters on Wednesday (18 February 2026).

Based on initial information, S, who hails from Mandailing Natal in North Sumatra, departed for Jakarta on Friday (13 February) using a travel service. S was subsequently apprehended by police at Kilometre 25 of the Bitung-Serpong Toll Road.

During the operation, police secured dried cannabis wrapped in brown tape weighing approximately 40 kilogrammes. Additionally, a red Polo Vienna-brand bag and a silver Suzuki APV vehicle in which S was travelling were also seized.

Police then conducted a thorough investigation into the ownership, origins, and intended destination of the illicit goods. The investigation uncovered two new names also involved in the case, who have been placed on the wanted persons list.

“I would also like to inform that during further investigation, related parties have been designated as wanted persons, namely individuals with the initials FR and EH,” said Boy.

The suspect has been charged under Article 114 paragraph 2 and/or Article 111 paragraph 2 of Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, as amended in Annex 2 of Republic of Indonesia Law Number 1 of 2026 on criminal penalty adjustments. The suspect faces the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a prison sentence of no less than six years and no more than 20 years.
