Drug Smuggling Attempt into Semarang Prison Foiled

An attempt to smuggle drugs into the Class I Penitentiary in Semarang has been foiled by prison officers. The illicit items were found in the agricultural area of the northern outer perimeter, having been thrown over the prison wall.

Head of the Semarang Class I Prison, Ahmad Tohari, confirmed the discovery of the suspicious package on Tuesday (4/8) at around 09.30 WIB. The find occurred when two officers, Aditya Siko and Dany Marsa, were conducting routine surveillance in the farming activity area.

While on patrol, they discovered a black plastic package wrapped in duct tape among the crops. The discovery was immediately coordinated with the Head of Security and the Head of Prevention and Suppression of Security and Order Disturbances.

“After an examination was carried out according to standard operating procedures and documented, it turned out that the package contained drugs, which we have now secured as evidence,” said Ahmad Tohari.

Ahmad Tohari explained that the package is strongly suspected to have been deliberately thrown over the perimeter wall and was intended for one of the inmates inside the prison. The discovery is the result of increased vigilance by officers in maintaining the prison’s integrity against drug trafficking.

“We will not give the slightest room for attempts to smuggle drugs or other prohibited items into the prison,” Ahmad Tohari stressed.

The Semarang Class I Prison is currently conducting further investigations to uncover the identity of the sender and the inmate who was the intended recipient of the package. In addition to securing the evidence, prison authorities are also tightening security at several vulnerable points to prevent similar smuggling methods from recurring in the future.
