Drug Smuggler Who Used Wedding Dress to Smuggle Drugs Faces Life Imprisonment

The Directorate General of Customs and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) have arrested a drug smuggler with the initials AFZ. AFZ was arrested at his boarding house in Cikarang Selatan, Bekasi.

“We found a person named AFZ at his boarding house in Cikarang. Specifically, in the Cibatu area, Cikarang Selatan,” said the Acting Deputy for Eradication of the BNN, Brigadier General Pol. Roy Hardi Siahaan, at a press conference at the Jakarta Customs Office, Wednesday (February 25, 2026).

AFZ was arrested for possessing MDMA-type ecstasy drugs. The BNN confiscated 4,080 MDMA pills in this case.

“Finally, we secured him and checked to make sure that the evidence was in front of him, and it was true that our suspicion was correct, that it was MDMA or ecstasy. In addition to counting, as Mr. Syarif mentioned, we have counted the total, which is 4,080 MDMA pills,” he said.

As a result of this incident, AFZ is charged with Article 114 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph 1 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, or alternatively Article 609 paragraph 2 letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code as amended in Law Number 1 concerning the adjustment of criminal penalties in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph 1 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

“The penalty is life imprisonment,” added Roy.

Meanwhile, Customs has revealed the discovery of the 4,080 MDMA pills. The drugs were found to be smuggled as wedding dresses.

“We would like to inform you that there was a suspicious package from abroad that was declared as a wedding dress,” said the Director of Narcotics Interdiction of Customs, R Syarif Hidayat, at a press conference at the Jakarta Customs Office, Wednesday (February 25).

“And from the tests, it was confirmed to be a type I narcotic, namely MDMA or methylenedioxymethamphetamine. The total number is 4,080 MDMA pills, or if weighed, it is approximately 1,9072 kilograms, so it is quite a lot.”
