Drug Operation in Pekanbaru: Police Detain 10 People and Seize Bongs

Riau Regional Police carried out a drug operation in high-risk areas of Pekanbaru. During the operation, officers detained 10 suspected users and seized packages of methamphetamine as well as methamphetamine pipes (bongs).

Director of Drug Investigation at Riau Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Putu Yudha Prawira, said the operation involved 280 combined personnel from the Riau Police Drug Investigation Directorate, the Riau Provincial National Narcotics Agency, Pekanbaru City Police, Pekanbaru City Public Order Agency, and the Riau Regional Office of Customs and Excise.

“This joint operation is to take action against all forms of drug abuse,” said Senior Commissioner Putu during a press conference at Riau Regional Police Headquarters in Pekanbaru on Monday (31/8/2026).

In this operation, officers raided three locations: the Panger area, Kampung Terendam, and Kampung Dalam in Pekanbaru.

“These three villages are what we consider drug trafficking hotspots in Pekanbaru,” he added.

During the activity, combined officers detained 15 people. Ten of them tested positive for drugs.

“Some were also found carrying and storing methamphetamine, while five people tested negative,” he said.

In addition to detaining the suspects, officers also seized evidence including packages of methamphetamine, plastic clips, glass pipes (bongs), and cardboard boxes used for ordering glass pipes.

“We found many cardboard boxes containing glass pipes commonly used to consume methamphetamine. We are currently investigating this further,” he said.

Meanwhile, Senior Commissioner Putu revealed that the 10 people caught were users.

“We have not yet found any dealers or distributors,” he said.

He added that the 10 individuals are still undergoing further investigation. If the evidence found is below the Supreme Court Circular threshold, the police will conduct an assessment of the individuals concerned.

“The results of the integrated team’s assessment will determine whether they are sent to rehabilitation or whether the case proceeds to investigation,” he continued.

Senior Commissioner Putu stressed that enforcement will continue to be carried out intensively in collaboration with relevant agencies to break the chain of drug trafficking in Riau Province.

“We will carry out this activity in collaboration with relevant parties, not only in Pekanbaru but also in other cities and regencies within the jurisdiction of Riau Regional Police,” he concluded.
