Drug evidence destroyed

TANGERANG (JP): The Tangerang Prosecutor's Office destroyed on
Friday a large amount of marijuana, heroin, shabu-shabu (crystal
methampetamine) and ecstasy pills which had been seized as
evidence for various court cases in the regency.

Officials burned at the small ceremony 55.04 kilograms of
marijuana, 3.47 kilograms of heroin, 43.93 kilograms of shabu-
shabu, 6,812 ecstasy pills and 8,125 pills of deazepam, a cheaper
form of ecstasy.

Tangerang Prosecutor's Office chief Poerwosoediro said
the drugs were confiscated as evidence for 73 marijuana cases, 35
heroin cases and 28 shabu-shabu and ecstasy cases.

The verdicts for all these cases were handed down by the
Tangerang District Court from August 2000 to July 2001.

Purwosoediro, however, refused to estimate the value of the
drugs.

Also present at the official burning was Tangerang District
Court chief Haogoaro Hareffa, Soekarno-Hatta Airport customs and
excise office chief Jusuf Indarto, Tangerang Police chief Sr.
Comr. Affan Richwanto and Tangerang regent Agus Djunari. (01)
