Drug Dealer in Riau Shot After Attacking Police with Sharp Weapon

The Riau Police Narcotics Directorate has arrested a man with the initials SD, suspected of being a drug dealer in Tenayan Raya, Pekanbaru City. Officers were forced to incapacitate him with gunfire after the suspect resisted arrest.

The arrest stemmed from public information indicating the suspect frequently conducted drug transactions. The team then carried out an investigation with an undercover buy on Jalan Badak Ujung, Tenayan Raya District, Pekanbaru City, on Thursday evening (16/7).

At around 10.10 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, SD arrived at the agreed location with an associate. When officers attempted to make the arrest, both perpetrators immediately resisted.

‘One of the perpetrators attacked a member of Sub-Directorate II using a sharp weapon, causing a laceration to the officer’s abdomen near the navel,’ said Riau Police Narcotics Director Senior Commissioner Putu Yudha Prawira in a statement on Saturday (18/7).

Other personnel at the scene provided backup. Because the suspect continued to resist and endangered the officers, police took decisive and measured action, ultimately incapacitating and arresting him.

From the suspect, officers seized evidence including 50 ecstasy pills of various colours and brands stored in a medicine box. Police also confiscated a cutter knife used in the attack on the officer, along with two mobile phones.

Meanwhile, the other perpetrator managed to flee and is currently being pursued by the authorities. The injured narcotics officer was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment. SD, who sustained gunshot wounds, was also taken to Bhayangkara Hospital before undergoing further questioning at the Riau Police Headquarters.

‘The suspect and the evidence are now secured at the Riau Police Narcotics Directorate for further investigation, while the other perpetrator remains at large,’ the director concluded.
