Probolinggo, East Java — Muhammad Taufik Rahadian, head of Probolinggo City Traffic Police Unit, stated that the car crash involving Komisi X DPR member Muhammad Hilman Mufidi (Gus Hilman) is suspected to have been caused by the driver falling asleep.

“We have conducted a crime scene investigation. The Innova driver is suspected to have been inattentive (drowsy) towards the vehicle in front,” Taufik said in a phone interview on Sunday in Probolinggo City.

According to him, the Innova driven by Mahrus Ali carried three passengers: Gus Hilman, Alex Anwaruh, and Adinda Najwa. The vehicle was travelling east to west from Probolinggo to Pasuruan.

“The Innova driver was inattentive or drowsy while driving, causing the vehicle to lose control and collide with the right rear of a dump truck travelling in the left lane ahead,” he said.

The severe collision in the left lane caused significant front damage to Gus Hilman’s vehicle, resulting in the deaths of two passengers.

When asked about suspects in the incident that killed two people, Taufik said Probolinggo City Traffic Police have not yet named a suspect as investigations are ongoing.

The two deceased victims, Alex Anwaruh, 25, and Adinda Najwa, 26, were Gus Hilman’s staff members.

The bodies of the victims have been taken to a funeral home in Tangerang and handed over to their families for burial.

Meanwhile, Gus Hilman, who sustained injuries, underwent surgery and intensive care at Dr. Soetomo Hospital in Surabaya and is now reported to have passed the critical stage.
