Drought Worsens in West Java, Bogor Regency Hardest Hit

A clean water crisis triggered by drought has impacted 130,014 residents across eight regencies and cities in West Java, with Bogor Regency suffering the most severe conditions, followed by Karawang and Bekasi Regency.

Hadi Rahmat, spokesperson for the West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), stated that the agency has distributed aid in the form of clean water supplies to affected communities. “We have dispatched clean water assistance to residents,” Hadi said.

According to him, West Java BPBD has prepared a phased mitigation strategy based on the priority level of each region to handle the drought’s impact. For high-priority areas, the focus is on distributing clean water using tanker trucks, alongside providing water sources through construction or well drilling. Meanwhile, for medium-priority regions, efforts are concentrated on strengthening logistics, ensuring fleet readiness, and monitoring developments on the ground.

In addition to supplying water, West Java BPBD has also conducted mapping of the affected areas. To date, approximately 1.2 million litres of clean water have been distributed. “BPBD urges residents to collect water when supplies are available, store it in clean and covered containers, use water according to need, turn off taps when not in use, and use water sparingly for bathing, washing, and daily activities,” Hadi emphasised.
