Drought Spreads in Dompu, 1,877 Households Struggle to Access Clean Water

The drought caused by extreme dry season conditions in Dompu, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), continues to spread. As a result, 1,877 households are struggling to obtain clean water for their daily needs.

The Head of the Dompu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Wan Muhtajud, stated that as of 1 September 2026, the drought has expanded to nine villages across four districts.

“The drought data as of 1 September 2026 shows two villages and two urban villages in Woja District, two villages in Pajo District, two villages in Dompu District, and one village in Manggelewa District,” Wan Muhtajud told detikBali on Wednesday (2/9/2026).

According to data compiled by BPBD Dompu, the families affected by the drought in Woja District include 302 households in Bakajaya Village, 195 in Nowa Village, 307 in Kandai Dua Urban Village, and 125 in Simpasai Urban Village.

Furthermore, in Pajo District, the drought affects 40 households in Ranggo Village and 467 in Tembalae Village. In Dompu District, the most severe drought is occurring in Mbawi Village, affecting 355 households, and Manggenae Village, affecting 75 households.

Finally, in Manggelewa District, only one village is affected, namely Kampasi Meci Village, with 47 households impacted.

Wan revealed that BPBD Dompu has distributed clean water to affected residents in Simpasai Urban Village, Woja District, and Ranggo Village, Pajo District. The distribution is being carried out using water tankers from the Dompu Environmental Office, the Dompu Regional Water Utility Company (PDAM), and Bank NTB tankers.

“Clean water distribution has been carried out since Tuesday, 1 September 2026, in Simpasai and Ranggo. Four water tankers are being utilised,” said Wan.
