Drought Impact Widens in Bekasi, 9 Districts Receive Rotational Water Distribution

The impact of drought in Bekasi Regency, West Java, has widened, paralysing clean water supplies and damaging thousands of hectares of agricultural land. The Bekasi Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has recorded that the drought affects 3,002 hectares of farmland spread across 15 districts and 52 villages.

The Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Bekasi Regency, Dodi Supriadi, stated that water distribution has been carried out gradually since 9 June 2026. “As of now, there are 23 villages in 9 districts receiving clean water distribution. We are serving all affected residents on a rotational basis due to limited vehicles and personnel,” said Dodi on Friday (31/7).

The nine priority districts include Cibarusah, Serang Baru, Bojongmangu, South Cikarang, Pebayuran, Sukatani, Cabangbungin, Babelan, and Tarumajaya. To overcome operational limitations, the BPBD is collecting data on water tank vehicles owned by regional authorities and private companies to augment the distribution fleet.

Meanwhile, the community’s clean water needs are being facilitated by Perumda Tirta Bhagasasi through access to free water collection at the nearest branches. The distribution of millions of litres of clean water is the result of a collaboration between BPBD, Perumda Tirta Bhagasasi, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), BBWS Citarum, BBWS Ciliwung-Cisadane, and the business sector, including PT Hyundai, PT EJIP, BMI Foundation, SCK Foundation, DPC GAMKI, and Jababeka CSR.
