Drought Hits 17 Regencies and Cities in West Java

A prolonged dry season has caused drought disasters across 17 regencies and cities in West Java. The West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that drought and clean water crises have hit 95 sub-districts. “We recorded that 207 villages and urban wards are experiencing drought and clean water crises,” explained BPBD West Java spokesperson Hadi Rahmat on Wednesday. A total of 64,274 families or 214,381 residents have been affected. BPBD and other disaster response units have distributed a total of 4,267,500 litres of clean water to the affected locations. Bogor Regency is the worst-hit area, with drought affecting 86 villages across 26 sub-districts. A total of 31,605 families or 108,629 residents have been impacted, and 877,500 litres of clean water aid have been distributed. Other areas experiencing high severity include Bekasi Regency, Karawang Regency, Tasikmalaya Regency, and Purwakarta Regency. “We urge the public to try to conserve water. BPBD West Java will assist affected areas by distributing clean water,” Hadi added.
