Drought Crisis Expands in Tangerang, 13 Districts Face Clean Water Shortages

Thirteen districts in Tangerang Regency are experiencing a clean water crisis as a result of drought triggered by extreme dry season conditions. As many as 6,260 people, or 1,565 heads of families, have been affected.

Achmad Taufik, Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Tangerang Regency, said the drought has now struck 64 villages and urban wards spread across 13 districts.

“Regarding the need for clean water, the drought has so far hit 13 districts in Tangerang Regency, covering 64 villages or urban wards,” Taufik said on Wednesday (5/8).

The affected areas include the districts of Legok, Tigaraksa, Jambe, Panongan, Rajeg, Kronjo, Curug, Kelapa Dua, Cikupa, Sukadiri, Balaraja, Mekar Baru and Pagedangan.

According to Taufik, the extreme dry season that began in May 2026 is expected to continue until October.

“The prolonged dry season has led to drought, and this drought has caused several problems, including a shortage of clean water, fires, and the potential for crop failure on farmland,” he explained.

To meet residents’ needs, BPBD Tangerang Regency continues to coordinate with a number of agencies, such as the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), the Housing, Settlements and Cemeteries Office (Perkim), the regional drinking water company (PDAM), and private parties in distributing clean water assistance to affected areas.

“And, thank God, together with the regional government — BPBD and Perkim, as well as PMI and other private parties — we are working in synergy to distribute this clean water assistance, and by the grace of God all needs have been met,” he said.
