Drought Causes Wells in Indramayu to Turn Salty, Residents Request Clean Water Aid

The impact of the drought is being felt in Indramayu Regency, with several villages requesting clean water assistance. Residents of Tanjakan Village, Krangkeng District, are experiencing a clean water crisis during this dry season. “It has not rained for about four months. Since then, we have been experiencing a clean water crisis,” said Tanjakan Village Head, Wadi, on Thursday (23/7). Wadi explained that the main source of clean water for his residents comes from rainwater. Consequently, when the rain stopped, residents could no longer obtain a supply of clean water. The lack of rain has also caused residents’ bore wells to slowly dry up and the water has now become salty. As a result, the well water cannot be used to meet the daily needs of the residents. This situation prompted Wadi to submit a request for clean water assistance to the Indramayu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). He expressed gratitude that his request was immediately granted. Meanwhile, the Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Indramayu, Agus Yani, explained that his team deployed three vehicles to transport clean water aid to the residents of Tanjakan Village. Two vehicles from BPBD, each with a capacity of 5,000 litres, and one vehicle from the regional water company (PDAM) were dispatched. “The distribution of clean water aid to this village is planned to be carried out several times, depending on the needs and requests from the community,” said Agus. Agus added that so far, only Tanjakan Village has submitted a request for clean water assistance. His team is ready to distribute aid if other villages make similar requests. “It is possible that other villages will also experience this. We are waiting for reports,” Agus stated.
