Drought Affects 10,850 Residents in Four Klaten Villages

A total of 3,319 households, comprising 10,858 individuals in four villages on the slopes of Mount Merapi, Kemalang District, Klaten Regency, are experiencing drought due to the dry season. The thousands of residents affected by the drought are spread across four villages: Tlogowatu, Tegalmulyo, Kendalsari, and Sidorejo. To address the drought affecting thousands of residents in the four villages within the Kemalang District, the Klaten Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has been routinely distributing clean water aid daily. The distribution of water aid to the four drought-stricken villages, as stated by the Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Klaten, Anjung Darojati, has been carried out since 15 June 2026. “The distribution of clean water aid to the four drought-affected villages in the Kemalang District area, from 15 June to 20 July 2026, totalled 306 tanks or 1,530,000 litres,” he explained when met by Media Indonesia on Tuesday (21/7). In detail, it was stated that Tlogowatu Village has received 88 tanks of clean water aid, with the number of beneficiary residents being 1,217 households or 3,566 individuals. Furthermore, Tegalmulyo Village received 72 tanks for 854 households (2,839 individuals), Kendalsari Village received 55 tanks for 376 households (1,382 individuals), and Sidorejo Village received 91 tanks for 872 households (3,071 individuals). “Today, BPBD Klaten is distributing 15 tanks of clean water. Thus, the water distribution activities to the four drought-affected villages from 15 June to 21 July 2026 have totalled 321 tanks or 1,605,000 litres,” Anjung revealed.
