Drought: 8.7 Million Litres of Water Distributed to 23 Regions in West Java

Bandung (ANTARA) - The West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) has stated that it, together with a joint team, has distributed 8.7 million litres of clean water to tackle the water crisis caused by the dry season, which has hit 23 regencies and cities in the region as of mid-August 2026.

This large-scale distribution of clean water is focused on mitigating the impact of drought on water sources, which has now spread and affected at least 450,383 residents or 140,765 families across 153 sub-districts and 334 villages/sub-districts throughout West Java.

Head of the West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Teten Ali, stated in Bandung on Tuesday that three areas in the northern region and the capital’s buffer zones received the largest water supplies due to the high density of affected residents.

‘Bekasi Regency received the largest distribution, totalling 3.8 million litres for 44,892 residents in nine sub-districts, followed by Bogor Regency with 1.5 million litres for 170,892 residents in 30 sub-districts, and Karawang Regency with 595,000 litres for 27,553 residents in five sub-districts,’ he said.

To facilitate supply mobility in isolated areas, the West Java BPBD has deployed additional water tanker fleets, conducted periodic mapping of drought threat dynamics, and intensified disaster mitigation outreach on social media.

‘Clean water assistance for residents does not only come from the BPBD, but also from collaboration across various agencies. The West Java Provincial Government expresses its appreciation and gratitude to all parties who continue to work to distribute clean water to residents,’ Teten remarked.
