Damascus (ANTARA) - Drones and rockets suspected to belong to Iran targeted a United States military base in northeastern Syria on Sunday (29/3), causing material losses but no casualties, according to a war monitoring report.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) stated that a rocket struck the Qasrak base in Hasakah province, while drone attacks occurred around midnight and at dawn.

The US air defence system successfully intercepted several drones, while other projectiles hit the location and caused damage, SOHR reported.

SOHR also mentioned that the Kharab al-Jir base near Rmeilan was hit by several rockets in the early hours of Sunday local time, with some intercepted and others reaching their targets, with no immediate reports of casualties.

Two additional drones were also shot down near a residential area in Hasakah, SOHR continued. These attacks triggered heightened alertness and air activity.

On 28 February, Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Tehran and several other cities in Iran, killing Iran’s then-top leader, Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians.

Iran subsequently responded by launching waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel as well as US bases and assets in the Middle East.
