Drone Attack Hits Homes and Infrastructure in Moscow, Leaving Three Dead
A woman died after a drone hit a private house. One person is still trapped under the rubble,” said Moscow Governor Andrey Vorobyov, as reported by AFP on Sunday (17/5/2026).
The attack occurred at 3 am. In addition to the woman, the drone attack also killed two men.
“Since 3 am, air defence forces have repelled a large-scale drone attack in the capital region,” he said, adding that four people were injured and infrastructure facilities were targeted.
In the capital itself, authorities reported that air defence systems had intercepted at least 74 drones overnight, injuring 12 people.
“Minor damage has been recorded at the sites where debris fell,” wrote Mayor Sergei Sobyanin via Telegram.
A total of 120 drones have been intercepted in the last 24 hours. According to the latest data, the Russian Ministry of Defence said that air defence systems had shot down 556 drones in more than 12 regions, including Moscow.
It is known that Moscow and Ukraine have resumed attacks after a prisoner exchange and the end of a three-day ceasefire on Tuesday.
The authorities did not mention the origin of the drones, but Ukraine, which has been responding to daily bombings by the Russian military for more than four years, regularly attacks Russian territory, saying that it targets military and energy sites.
Although the capital region is often targeted by drone attacks, the city of Moscow is less frequently targeted.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy promised on Friday to launch further retaliatory strikes a day after a Russian attack in Kyiv killed 24 people.
