Pertamina EP continues to drive technology innovation to enhance upstream oil and gas operational reliability. One such innovation is QORD TECH (Quadrant Orifice Meter Diagnostic Technology), a diagnostic analysis technology that detects internal components of gas metering systems without requiring equipment dismantling.

At the Oil & Gas Transportation (OGT) Field, Pertamina EP Zone 7 distributes gas to 43 consumer points with a daily production value of USD 926.79. Here, the Operations Team developed an innovation to address the need for more effective, faster, and efficient gas metering system inspections and maintenance. Through sensor-based analysis and system modelling, QORD TECH assists operators and technicians in detecting internal component conditions not visible to the naked eye.

Kuwat Riyanto, Facility Manager of Pertamina EP Zone 7’s OGT Field, stated that QORD TECH reflects the company’s commitment to delivering more effective and efficient operational solutions through field-based technology development.

“QORD TECH was developed to facilitate faster, more accurate gas metering diagnostics without equipment dismantling. This innovation not only enhances metering system reliability but also adds value through improved operational efficiency and company performance optimisation,” he said in an official statement on Thursday (28 May).

The technology was developed to support the company’s Digitalization & Innovation implementation and to improve gas measurement reliability in line with oil and gas industry standards. During implementation, QORD TECH reduced orifice gas metering error rates from 0.8-0.9% to nearly normal levels of 0.1%. This improved accuracy has significantly enhanced operational optimisation and company efficiency.

In addition to improving measurement accuracy, the innovation has generated additional value through a Rp23.8 billion increase in company revenue, Rp1.4 billion in cost savings, and a total added value of Rp25.2 billion.

QORD TECH development involved several stages, including gas metering system analysis and modelling, sensor and component assembly, and calibration of each sensor to ensure system reliability and optimal performance.

The technology has received internal recognition through the Technical Guideline for the Use of Portable QORD TECH – Quadrant Orifice Meter Diagnostic Technology, with TKPA number D04-014/PEP80000/2025-S9. Additionally, the innovation won a Platinum Award in the Best Project Collaboration category at the Upstream Improvement & Innovation Award 2025.

Through innovative technologies like QORD TECH, Pertamina EP continues to strengthen its digital transformation and innovation culture to support safe, reliable, efficient, and sustainable upstream oil and gas operations.

The IPA Convention and Exhibition 2026 recorded several strategic achievements deemed to bolster national upstream oil and gas investment optimism.

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, alongside PT Pertamina EP Zone 7 and Zone 11, continues to strengthen support for national energy security.

The Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA), an association of upstream oil and gas companies, stated that Indonesia still has significant potential for oil and gas exploration.

The upstream oil and gas industry is considered strategically important for driving regional economic growth through the multiplier effects of its operational activities.

The Domestic Component Level (TKDN) policy should serve as a strategic instrument to strengthen national industrial independence, particularly in the upstream oil and gas sector.
