Drivers Protest Bogor Mayor's Ban on Old Public Minibuses

A number of drivers and owners of urban public transport (angkot) held a demonstration at Bogor City Hall. They are protesting the Bogor City Government’s policy that prohibits old minibuses from operating.

“Our demands are for the abolition or an extension of the reduction period. Given the current economic climate, it is too difficult to carry out vehicle rejuvenation. Other demands include the removal of the Regional Regulation (Perda) or the removal of the age restriction on minibuses,” said Deden, a representative for the drivers, at Bogor City Hall on Thursday (3/9/2026).

Observers noted that the protesters brought their minibuses to Bogor City Hall. Several vehicles were parked in the City Hall courtyard and along the left side of Jalan Ir Juanda. A number of drivers delivered orations from a command vehicle within the City Hall grounds.

Police, the Department of Transportation, and the Bogor Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) were present to monitor the demonstration. Traffic flow in front of Bogor City Hall experienced delays.

“The traffic situation in front of City Hall remains flowing across two lanes for motorcycles and cars, as two lanes on the left side are being used to park the minibuses participating in the protest at City Hall,” said Iptu Lukman, KBO Satlantas Polresta Bogor Kota.

Bogor Mayor Didie A Rachim previously officially signed a regulation regarding the technical age limit for minibuses. Old minibuses over 20 years of age are now officially prohibited from operating in Bogor City.

“Today we signed the Mayor’s Regulation (Perwali) regarding the technical age limit of urban transport, accompanied by steps such as direct restrictions through joint operations, to ensure that urban transport over 20 years of age is no longer permitted to operate in Bogor City,” said Dedie on Monday (15/6).

Following this, the Bogor City Government conducted raids on old minibuses. Last July, the Bogor City Government announced that it had revoked the route permits for 313 old minibuses.
