Drivers Must Take Note: Prohibited Actions During Implementation of One-Way and Contraflow
Jakarta, VIVA – Traffic volume during the Eid al-Fitr 1447H/2026 Lebaran return period has increased significantly. To anticipate congestion due to the surge in vehicles, traffic engineering in the form of national one-way and contraflow is being implemented at the discretion of the Police. This policy is carried out to optimise the capacity of toll road lanes to maintain the smoothness, security, and comfort of travel. Jasa Marga President Director Rivan A. Purwantono stated that Jasa Marga has prepared various facilities and preparations to support safety during the implementation of these arrangements. “We have deployed traffic controllers at several strategic points and provided Road Patrol (PJR) vehicle escorts as safety cars to ensure that speeds in the contraflow lane remain in accordance with regulations, namely 40 km/h,” said Rivan. Jasa Marga has also installed two-sided reflectors on median barriers as well as the placement of sign packages at entry points and every 2.5 km along the route. These preparations include two-way traffic warnings, a maximum speed limit of 40 km/h, prohibition on overtaking, warning lights, and emphasis that the contraflow lane is only intended for small vehicles. Rivan also emphasised that road user discipline is the main key to maintaining safety while traversing the contraflow and one-way lanes. Road users are urged to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and drivers are in prime condition before entering those lanes. “On the contraflow or one-way lanes, we ask road users to avoid stopping on the roadside except in emergencies, it is prohibited to change lanes, prohibited to change lanes suddenly, and to comply with the speed limit. If experiencing an emergency, please do not use the right shoulder, but continue to use the inner/left shoulder. Especially on the contraflow lane, do not cross to the opposite direction to stop on the right roadside,” Rivan stressed. Rivan also reminded that for quick assistance from officers, road users can contact Jasa Marga’s call centre at 133. Requests for assistance and updates on the latest toll road traffic information can also be obtained through the Travoy application.
