Driver's killer arrested

JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta police have arrested one of two men believed to have killed a taxi driver early this year.

Chief of the North Jakarta police precinct Lt. Col. Abu Bakar Hanifah said on Tuesday that Bernadus Samudera was arrested on Sunday.

"He was caught while extorting small traders at the Pasar Semper market," Hanifah said.

Bernadus's companion, identified as Irfan, is still at large.

The suspect said he killed the taxi driver because he was jealous of the victim, who used to drive his ex-wife to and from work almost everyday.

The killing took place in a house on Jl. Majapahit at the Tax and Excise housing complex on Jan. 28. The house belonged to the suspect's ex-wife.

After the killing, the two drove off and left the taxi on Jl. Tipar, Cakung, with Musnar's dead body in it. Passersby found the body in the taxi the following day. (bsr)
