Drivers' fate
Drivers' fate
From Republika
We should admit that, on the whole, the behavior of public
transport drivers is mischievous. But this is a result of a chain
of problems -- from education to the government's economic
policies.
The situation is made worse by the incomplete application of
the traffic law No. 14/1992. As we know the law emphasizes
matters concerning fines and sanctions imposed on violators of
traffic regulations. In fact, the traffic law is also meant to
protect the interest and fate of the drivers as stipulated in
articles 18, 19 and 20, so that the drivers can become partners
in the transportation sector, while at the same time their
dignity is enhanced.
To this end I would like to suggest that the fine increase for
misbehaving drivers be postponed until a number of more urgent
problems are first addressed. I am certainly not against the
enforcement of traffic law, but protecting the interests of the
drivers should be given higher priority.
