Drivers extorted in Senen terminal

Drivers extorted in Senen terminal

From Merdeka

Like other commercial centers, the Senen area is a busy place.
It is also a hectic transit point of city buses and other public
transport vehicles.

This situation has apparently invited extorters who prey on
bus, taxi, mikrolet and bajaj drivers in the vicinity
of the Senen bus terminal. There are three points in which these
drivers have to pay illegal levies.

The first point is inside the terminal, the second one outside
the terminal and the third one at the entrance of the main gate
of the Matahari department store parking area. The illegal levies
are known as "uang jago" (extortion money).

These drivers of public transport will continue to suffer if
this situation is not rectified. They have to pay at least Rp 300
at each point of extortion apart from their daily rental fee of
their vehicles.

Frustration of this situation may have contributed to the
generally rude behavior of the public transport drivers.
What action will be taken by the authorities?
