Police have secured a man with the initials HM (24), the driver of a car who drove against traffic and hit several vehicles on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta. It turned out that the driver was driving against traffic because he was fleeing when police tried to stop him due to using fake license plates.

This was revealed by the Head of Traffic at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Komarudin. He initially explained that the driver had been driving erratically from the start, attracting the attention of officers.

“It started when our officers were conducting routine patrols in the afternoon. They spotted a vehicle coming from the south, from Senen towards Gunung Sahari, and it appeared to be driving erratically in the middle of the afternoon traffic in Jakarta,” said Kombes Komarudin when contacted on Thursday (February 26, 2026).

In addition, Komarudin said that HM had installed fake license plates on the black car he was driving. He said that four vehicle registration plates were also found in the car.

“We conducted a search of the vehicle and found four sets of vehicle registration plates. The one attached to the car was fake,” said Komarudin.

He has not yet been able to determine what caused HM to drive so erratically. The driver is still being questioned by the police.

“This is still being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jakarta Pusat Police. We are still questioning the suspect. He is still being questioned at the Jakarta Pusat Police station,” he said.

Previously, it was reported that police had secured HM (21), the driver of a car who drove against traffic and hit several vehicles on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta. The driver and the vehicle were secured.

“The driver and the vehicle have been secured at the Jakarta Pusat Police station,” said the Head of Traffic at the Jakarta Pusat Metro Police, Kompol Arry Utomo, on Wednesday (February 25).

He said that there were no casualties or injuries in the incident. However, the car sustained some damage.

“The minibus with license plate D-1640-AHB sustained damage to the rear body, broken glass, and a dent in the front,” he said.
