Driver questioned over minors' death

JAKARTA (JP): A bulldozer driver is being interrogated by the West Jakarta police over the death of two boys in a housing project site, a police source said Saturday.

Komarudin and Surya, both 10, were found in critical condition Friday morning after residents in the Kalideres district heard screams near a bulldozer.

The driver was leveling soil on a plot in the Taman Surya housing project, located in Pegadungan subdistrict. The boys were playing at the site.

When he heard the screams, the driver, Amin, immediately alighted from the bulldozer to see what was happening.

The driver then saw the two boys were buried by soil he had bulldozed.

Local inhabitants took Komarudin home but he died on the way. Surya died at the Tangerang General Hospital.

Some residents became angry over the accident and attacked the driver and burned two bulldozers.

"So far the driver is the only one we are questioning," the source at the police precinct who requested anonymity said. (anr)
