A petrol station attendant in the Cipinang area of East Jakarta was assaulted by a man who attempted to purchase fuel. The assault was recorded on CCTV and has gone viral on social media.

According to detikNews, the incident occurred on Sunday evening (22nd February). The video shows a man, believed to be the owner of a Toyota Vellfire, attempting to purchase fuel.

The man then points at the petrol station attendant’s face and punches him.

After the assault, the man briefly returns to his car before exiting again and chasing the attendant.

Shortly after, the man leaves the petrol station, abandoning his car. Upon his return, he points at another man.

The Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the man, identified as JMH, has been arrested. JMH was found to be using a fake vehicle registration plate (L-1-XD).

“The perpetrator was apprehended in the Rawalumbu area of East Bekasi. He was then taken to the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police for further questioning,” he told reporters on Tuesday (24th February 2026).

Budi explained that the incident began when JMH, driving a Toyota Vellfire, attempted to purchase Pertalite fuel. However, the attendant refused because the barcode did not match the vehicle’s identification.

“The incident began when a black Toyota Vellfire attempted to purchase Pertalite fuel. However, the petrol station attendant refused because the barcode did not match the vehicle’s registration number, so the purchase could not be completed according to regulations,”

“The barcode did not match the vehicle’s registration number, so the purchase could not be completed according to regulations,” Budi explained.

The perpetrator also claimed to be a law enforcement officer. Budi confirmed that the perpetrator is not a police officer but a private businessman.
