Driver of Reckless Vehicle in Central Jakarta Detained After Being Designated Suspect
A driver of a Toyota Calya identified as HM (25) who drove recklessly and collided with numerous vehicles in Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta, has been designated a suspect and detained by Central Jakarta Metro Police.
“The detention has been carried out by Central Jakarta Metro Police,” said Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Head Brigadier General Budi Hermanto to journalists at National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta on Friday (27 February 2026).
Budi stated that HM is currently undergoing investigation by police detectives. HM will be charged under Article 30 Paragraph 1 of Law No. 1 of 2023 in conjunction with Article 391 Paragraph 2 of the Indonesian Criminal Code, facing a threat of 7 years imprisonment.
“The article to be charged is Article 30 Paragraph 1 of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning Article 391 Paragraph 2 with a threat of 7 years imprisonment,” Budi explained.
As previously reported, police secured a man with initials HM (24), the driver of a black Toyota Calya who drove recklessly against traffic and collided with numerous vehicles in the Gunung Sahari area, Central Jakarta. The suspect has now been designated as such.
Metro Jaya Police Traffic Director Brigadier General Komaruddin stated that the suspect is being charged under Article 311 of Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation.
“For Article 311 Paragraphs (1), (2), and (3),” Komarudin said separately.
Four Different Registration Plates Found in Vehicle
Police revealed multiple registration plates discovered in the Toyota Calya that drove recklessly and collided with numerous vehicles in Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta. Police are currently investigating the findings.
“Inside the vehicle, four sets of registration plates with different numbers were found, two with B plates, one with G plate, one with B plate,” said Metro Jaya Police Traffic Director Brigadier General Komarudin when contacted on Thursday (26 February).
The four registration plates are B-1235-NIL, B-2932-BZF, G-1877-ZZ, and D-1640-AHB. Investigation into these four plates is currently being pursued by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Central Jakarta Metro Police.
In addition to four sets of vehicle plates, two sharp weapons and a toy gun were found. HM is also reported to lack a valid driving licence and vehicle registration documents.
