Driver arrested after seven killed

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Provincial police have captured a teenager, after a truck accident claimed the lives of seven people in Tanaq Awu traditional market on Saturday.

Central Lombok Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Abdul Hakim Munsarif said officers arrested Fali, 17, at his friend's house in Sengkol subdistrict on Monday evening. Fali fled soon after the fatal accident.

The number of casualties rose to seven on Tuesday with the death of five more victims who were undergoing treatment at the Praya General Hospital.

Fali was allegedly speeding at between 50 and 60 kilometers per hour near the crowded market when a front tire blew out on his father's truck which was carrying three tons of sand.

Fali lost control the truck, which then ran over a group of people in the market. Two of the victims died instantly. -- Antara
