Driven by Infrastructure-Tourism, RedDoorz in Malang Records Sales of 278,000 Rooms in 2025
Demand for accommodation in Malang City is showing a positive growth trend in line with increasing tourism activities and domestic tourist mobility. Southeast Asia’s leading multi-brand hospitality and accommodation technology platform, RedDoorz, has recorded room sales from all partner properties and multi-brands in Malang reaching more than 278,000 rooms throughout 2025.
Currently, RedDoorz’s network in Malang has expanded with 164 partner properties serving various tourist segments. This growth reflects Malang’s strengthening position as one of the main tourist destinations in East Java.
“Malang has a unique appeal because it combines the function of an education city as well as a tourist destination. In addition, access to this city is becoming easier, so tourist mobility from various cities, especially in East Java, continues to increase,” said Ovaldo Sanjaya, General Manager Area East & Bali, RedDoorz.
From the consumer behaviour side, RedDoorz has noted that short-trip trends still dominate tourist visits to Malang. As many as 87 percent of guests choose to stay for one night, with a total of more than 211,000 bookings throughout the year. Meanwhile, around 62 percent of bookings are made on the same day as the check-in date, indicating a high trend of spontaneous or last-minute bookings.
This growth in accommodation demand is also supported by the increasing number of tourists visiting Malang City. Based on data from the Malang City Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office, the number of tourist visits reached 3.4 million people, exceeding the set target of 3.3 million visits or around 103 percent of the target.
Along with the increasing accommodation demand, several partner properties collaborating with RedDoorz have also recorded positive business performance. Technological support, wide consumer distribution reach, and assistance from RedDoorz’s local team help property owners optimise operations and occupancy rates.
One of them is Indah Sri Handayani, Owner of RedDoorz Premium Hotel @ Jalan Cengkeh Malang. Since joining the RedDoorz group in 2019, this property has recorded an average occupancy of 60 percent.
“Joining RedDoorz has had a very significant impact on our business. In addition to helping increase the property’s visibility on digital platforms, support from the local team also helps us manage operations more optimally,” said Indah.
Positive performance is also felt by Kristina Caturkaryani, Owner of SANS Arya Hotel Batu. As a newly built property that directly joined the SANS brand at the beginning of 2025, SANS Arya Hotel Batu has received a very good response from customers. This is reflected in the hotel’s occupancy rate, which has reached 75 percent.
“Collaboration with RedDoorz helps us manage the property more professionally, especially in terms of digital marketing and demand management. This greatly helps increase occupancy rates and income stability,” said Kristina.
Most tourists staying in Malang come from surrounding cities, with Surabaya being the largest contributor in terms of room bookings. From the connectivity side, access to Malang is also continuously improving. Since opening in 2019, the Pandaan-Malang Toll Road has accelerated travel time from Surabaya and surrounding areas to the city.
In the future, access to tourist areas in Malang will also be further strengthened through the Malang-Kepanjen Toll Road project, which is included in Indonesia’s list of National Strategic Projects. This project is expected to improve connectivity to the South Malang area, which has various natural tourist destinations, including routes to Balekambang Beach and the Bantur area.
In addition to ease of access, Malang is also known to have a complete tourism landscape. Tourists can enjoy mountain areas and family recreation in the Batu City area, while exploring various beach destinations in the South Malang area.
From the national development side, Malang also receives strategic attention from the government. The National Development Planning Agency has designated Malang as a pilot project for the 2026 national strategic programme, making it a role model for a tourist city in East Java that integrates three main sectors: tourism, education, and agriculture.
“With a combination of natural tourism potential, a strong education ecosystem, and continuously developing infrastructure, Malang is projected to continue becoming one of the centres of tourism and regional economic growth in East Java,” said Ovaldo.
