Drive cars home at your own risk

JAKARTA: Although Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso has allowed his subordinates to use official cars for the Idul Fitri exodus, the city will require them pay for any damage to the vehicles.

"Any damage will become the officers' responsibility. They will have to repair (the cars) since they will be using them for personal purposes, not official ones," city spokesman Moerdiman said.

Officials wanting to use their work cars to go home had to inform their superiors prior to leaving, he said.

Jakarta has at least 1,000 official cars as most subdistrict heads, district heads, mayors, heads of city agencies receive them. --JP
