The El Nino phenomenon is increasing the risk of drought and pressure on water availability in several regions of Indonesia. This situation makes the management and monitoring of water use in the industrial sector increasingly important, including understanding sources, usage volumes, and wastewater management.

Companies need to have adequate data to understand water usage patterns and identify potential waste. This data is also needed to support compliance with environmental regulations while helping companies manage operational risks arising from water scarcity.

Founder and CEO of MyESICS, Ari Christiany, said that environmental management requires a data system that can help companies understand environmental conditions in a more measurable way.

“Companies and institutions do not simply need to have data; they need a system that can help process that data into information that is easy to understand and supports decision-making,” Ari said at the Grand Launching of MyESICS in Tangerang on Saturday (29/8/2026).

This was one of the motivations behind the development of MyESICS, a web-based platform that combines the management, monitoring, analysis, and reporting of environmental data.

The Head of the Spatial Planning and Capacity Building Division at the Banten Provincial Environmental and Forestry Agency, Wawan Wahyudi, said that integrated environmental data management can help companies and professionals address various environmental needs in a more structured manner.

“This platform will certainly help many companies and professionals manage various environmental needs more easily, quickly, and in a structured way,” he said.

Water management is one aspect that needs attention when drought risk increases. Companies need to understand their water balance, usage patterns, and changes in consumption volumes so that potential inefficiencies can be identified early.

Ari said that water usage data is not only relevant to environmental reporting requirements. According to him, this data can be used to assess operational efficiency and anticipate risks arising from changing environmental conditions.

“In conditions like the present, water management must be carried out in a measurable way. Companies need to know their water balance, understand usage patterns, and be able to immediately identify when inefficiencies occur,” he said.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has previously warned of the impact of El Nino on the dry season in Indonesia. The phenomenon can increase the risk of a drier dry season in several regions, making water resource management a cross-sectoral concern.

Beyond water management, environmental data systems also cover the need for monitoring and reporting various environmental aspects as well as access to regulatory information. More structured data management can help companies view their environmental obligations alongside operational conditions more comprehensively.

In this context, the digitalisation of environmental data management is becoming one of the approaches developing in the industrial sector. However, its effectiveness still depends on data quality, on-the-ground monitoring, and the ability of companies to act on the information generated.
