Dramatic Evacuation of Sacrificial Cattle as Some Flee into Drainage
JAKARTA — Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah celebrations were marred by incidents of sacrificial cattle escaping and rampaging on roads. Moments meant to be solemn suddenly turned to panic as sacrificial cattle ran aimlessly through residential areas. The incidents occurred across multiple regions, from Jakarta to Tangerang. The cattle became difficult to control due to stress or shock ahead of slaughter, causing them to panic and run wild, sparking fear among nearby residents. A 350kg sacrificial bull rampaged and became trapped in a drainage culvert in Kayu Putih, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on Wednesday (27 May 2026). The animal entered a one-metre-wide, two-metre-deep drainage culvert, complicating evacuation efforts. Residents then requested assistance from East Jakarta’s Sudin Gulkarmat officials. Wahid stated that Sudin Gulkarmat received the report at 9:10 AM WIB and immediately deployed a rescue team to the scene. Another sacrificial cattle caused panic among road users after escaping and running into traffic on Ir. H. Juanda Street in East Ciputat, South Tangerang City. In social media videos, the brown-coloured bull was seen darting between moving vehicles. Several residents attempted to chase and capture the animal to prevent endangering drivers. Kompol Bambang Askar Sodiq, East Ciputat Police Station Chief, confirmed the incident, stating police responded immediately after receiving reports of the escaped sacrificial cattle.
