The East Jakarta City Government targets the completion of drainage construction traversing two sub-districts, namely Ciracas and Kelapa Dua Wetan (KDW), by December 2026.

“The construction project will take 167 days, starting from 2 July and is targeted to be completed by 15 December 2026,” said the Mayor of East Jakarta, Munjirin, when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday.

The construction process, which employs the jacking method on Jalan Raya Pondok Karya Pembangunan (PKB), has only completed 50 metres of the total 406-metre length.

“Regarding progress, it is currently at 15 per cent, as only about 50 metres of the total 406-metre length have been constructed,” Munjirin stated.

He noted that the drainage system aims to address the frequent flooding that occurs in the location during the rainy season.

“The hope for this jacking method construction, given the undulating contours here, is that the water will be discharged into the Cipinang River. Hopefully, this will eliminate flooding in these two sub-districts, which are consistently affected by floods every time it rains,” Munjirin explained.

He also requested the support of the local community, particularly road users affected by the works, to fully support the development.

“I ask for the support of the local community. For those who regularly pass this road and are affected by the jacking process, which causes some delays and congestion, I ask for your patience, as this is a collective project to overcome flooding in this area. We hope you can be patient for a short time so that we can complete this with the hope of solving the flooding problem in this region,” said Munjirin.

Previously, Munjirin inspected the drainage construction on Thursday (3/9). Also present during the inspection were the East Jakarta City Secretary Eka Darmawan, the Assistant for Economy and Development of East Jakarta, Fauzi, and the Head of the Construction Section of the East Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department, Tengku Saugie Zikri.
