Dr Tifa Takes Doctoral Exam Online from Police Station After Arrest

Dr Tifauzia Tyassuma, known as Dr Tifa, a suspect in a defamation case related to the diploma of Indonesia’s seventh President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), was arrested by Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Friday morning (19/6). A member of Dr Tifa’s legal team, Aziz Yanuar, confirmed the arrest. Through a press release, the Dr Tifa Defence Team stated their client reported being arrested by police at her apartment around 6.47 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. Dr Tifa’s lawyer explained that she was scheduled to sit her doctoral dissertation exam at the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Medicine (FKUI). However, due to the arrest, the exam had to be conducted online from a room within the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters. “This information was conveyed directly by Dr Tifa. After being taken to the police headquarters, Dr Tifa showed evidence that she was currently in the Jakarta Metropolitan Police environment,” the press release stated. “Dr Tifa appeared to be in front of a laptop and stated that she was taking her doctoral exam at FKUI from a room at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.” Based on a photo received from the legal team, Dr Tifa was seen in a room facing an open laptop. To her left was a bundle of a draft scientific paper with a soft green cover and the University of Indonesia logo. At the same time, Jakarta Metropolitan Police also arrested telematics expert Roy Suryo, who has also been named a suspect in the case. This was conveyed by Roy Suryo’s lawyer, Ahmad Khozinudin, when contacted. He then shared a press release from Roy Suryo’s legal team regarding the arrest. In the statement, Khozinudin and colleagues said Roy was arrested around 7.00 a.m. on Friday morning, as was Dr Tifa. “Today, Friday 19 June 2026, at approximately 7.00 a.m., our client Roy Suryo Notodiprojo was reported by his wife to have been arrested by Jakarta Metropolitan Police investigators,” he said. “At the same time, we also received information that Tifauzia Tyassuma was also arrested.” As of the writing of this report, CNNIndonesia.com had not received an official statement from the police regarding the arrests of Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa. In the press release, Roy Suryo’s legal team questioned the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s decision to carry out a forced arrest of Roy and Dr Tifa, given that their clients had always cooperated with police summons for questioning and examination. “We regret the actions of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police investigators who carried out a forced arrest of our client, even though our client has been cooperative in fulfilling investigators’ summons and has always complied with mandatory reporting,” said Roy Suryo’s legal team. “Secondly, if the action was intended for the second stage of case transfer or as reported the case file is complete, then such action could be carried out by issuing a summons letter, not through forced (repressive) measures via an arrest process.” On this basis, Roy’s legal team suspects the arrest demonstrates police action that does not uphold norms and ethics, and facilitates political power intervening in the law. “We believe this arrest confirms that the law is not proceeding according to norms and ethics, but rather serving Jokowi’s political interests,” they said. “This arrest actually confirms that there is political power intervening in the law, so that civilised methods of law enforcement through summons are abandoned and replaced by uncivilised, repressive, and intimidating methods through arrest.” Jakarta Metropolitan Police previously stated that the case files for Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa regarding the allegations of a fake diploma for Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo had been declared complete (P21) by the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office. “Alhamdulillah, as of today the prosecutor has stated that the case file we sent to the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office no longer requires fulfilment of the deficiencies we previously addressed,” said Jakarta Metropolitan Police Director of General Criminal Investigation, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, on Tuesday (2/6). At that time, Iman said his party would soon carry out the second stage of transfer, handing over evidence and suspects to the prosecutor’s office to be brought to court. However, he could not confirm when the second stage transfer would take place. After the second stage transfer, the prosecutor will then prepare the indictment, followed by the trial process. Jakarta Metropolitan Police previously investigated the alleged defamation case related to the fake diploma accusations after being reported directly by Jokowi. In the case, Jakarta Metropolitan Police named several people as suspects. However, some of them—including Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar—obtained a legal resolution through substantive justice (restorative justice) after meeting Jokowi and apologising. Rismon has now even affirmed the authenticity of Jokowi’s diploma and authored a book titled ‘Authentication of Joko Widodo’s Diploma’. The final draft of his work has been signed by Jokowi, and the father of Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has asked Rismon to hold a book review at Gadjah Mada University.
